Johan Viljoen

Director of DHPI

Johan Viljoen has been the Director of Denis Hurley Peace Institute since April 2017. He worked as Country Director for Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) from 2015 to 2017, implementing refugee relief programmes for UNHCR in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Prior to that he was the Programme Manager of the SACBC AIDS Office for 15 years, responsible for the SACBC ARV treatment program, which provided treatment to more than 45 000 people in 22 sites countrywide.

Jeanette Lesisa

Monitoring and Evaluation

Jeanette has wide-ranging knowledge about the Southern African Catholics Bishops Conference (SACBC), having worked with the Catholic Church for over 20 years, in various departments of the SACBC with different portfolios. She has previous work experience for a few years as a project director for Jesuit Refugee Service and the Catholic Justice and Peace in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg, as well as being a Training Programme Coordinator for the National Catholic Justice and Peace (SACBC). Currently she is working as the Office Administrator for DHPI, as well as monitoring and evaluation for Uganda and Eswatini.

Reabetswe Tloubatla


Reabetswe has a degree in International Relations and Politics from the University of South Africa. She has extensive experience in refugee aid work, having worked for the Jesuit Refugee Service for a number of years. She is very involved in her community, volunteering as a host on a community radio station and other community activities. At DHPI she heads research and communication, with a special focus on the humanitarian conflict in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique and the displacement of peoples from their ancestral lands in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also assists in the audio visual work done at Khanya house. She is currently continuing her education as an LLB student.

Lelis Quintanilla

Project Manager Mozambique

Lelis has a master’s in business administration from the IEB in Spain, a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Anahuac University in Mexico, and a Diploma in Finance and Accounting from the ITAM in Mexico. She has been in DHPI since February 2021, volunteering as the Project Manager for Mozambique, where she works with local NGOs and communities to identify humanitarian needs, write proposals, and find funding through INGOs to implement the projects. She is also responsible for the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of those projects. Before joining DHPI, she worked at AstraZeneca and IBM totalling more than 17 years of professional experience in different areas and roles such as Sales, Marketing, Operations, Planning, Finance, and Audit. Lelis is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and Portuguese.

Fr. Godlove Ngenge

Collaborator – From the Diocese of Bamenda

Fr Godlove Ngenge Bong-aba is a diocesan priest from Cameroon of the Archdiocese of Bamenda. He is currently an intern at the Denis Hurley Peace Institute with a focus on peace efforts within the Anglophone community of Cameroon.

Cayla Brooker

Communications Officer

Cayla is a recent graduate in International Relations and Public Management from the University of Pretoria. She has a variety of experience working with digital platforms and has completed short courses in Web Design. Currently, she is an intern at Denis Hurley Peace Institute, whereby she creates and manages all communication channels, including all social media platforms and updating and designing the website for DHPI. Similarly, she is working under the communications department for the SACBC.
