eSwatini Youth to Disrupt Sibaya

Will the Sibaya National Dialogue budgeted for E22 million in this year’s budget in eSwatini take place? King Mswati’s Government announced that the King would call Sibaya to discuss the ongoing political unrest, however, political parties and organizations within the civil society are demanding a fair and credible political dialogue.

Sakhile Nxumalo, the newly elected President of the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) says as young people, they will not only boycott Sibaya but will disrupt it and all activities organized by King Mswati. SWAYOCO, the Youth League of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), had its 12th Congress from 22-24 April 2022 at Bela-Bela, Limpopo.

Addressing the delegates on Sunday, President Sakhile Nxumalo warned King Mswati not to dare host Sibaya adding that they would launch a program to disrupt it. The SWAYOCO President said they would not allow King Mswati to dictate terms to them on how to resolve the current political challenges. On another note, the PUDEMO Youth League President said as the new Executive of SWAYOCO they would be at the forefront and be the first ones to go to jail once the youth starts the program of rendering eSwatini ungovernable.

There’s a widespread concern that the dialogue would not take place. Does His Majesty’s call on all EmaSwati to engage in the Sibaya at the best interest of the Swazi nation? The King expressed that Sibaya will help the EmaSwati to find the best way forward and ensure that the tragedies that were experienced during the past year were never repeated.

Sicelo Mngomezulu, the lawyer representing pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube has urged the youth not to attend Sibaya, a traditional forum used by King Mswati to mislead the world that eSwatini is a democratic country. Addressing members of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) Youth League, during the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) 12th Congress last week, the attorney further thanked the delegates for attending protests in support of the pro-democracy MPs. “I have seen you on the ground participating actively in the protests in support of the MPs and I would like to appreciate that,” said the lawyer.
