Mozambican Catholic Bishops speak out on election fraud and violence
The Mozambican Catholic Bishops have spoken out against the electoral fraud and post-election violence in the country. In a statement dated 16 October 2023, they emphasise “the need to have democratic and peaceful elections, in which differences were respected, and we showed the importance of adequate monitoring electoral campaign and positive presence of security forces for the benefit of all. In this sense, we followed with great interest the holding of the sixth local elections in our country. As in past elections, the Catholic Church in Mozambique is part of the group of electoral observers, through the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace, which is part of the “Mais Integridade” Electoral Consortium”.
