Fifteen terrorists were killed by troops in Zamfara state. The terrorists, aligned with a known kingpin, Dankarami, were attempting to attack Gidan Danjimma and Kirifada villages in the Birnin-Magaji Local Government Area. The terrorists were held off by local troops as well as local vigilantes. A resident of the area, speaking under anonymity, said that the bandits attacked the area and the troops were able to quickly stop them, but that 15 bandits died in the gunfire. They also said some fighters were wounded. The troops were able to stop the attack early on because they were on patrol at the time, and were able to intercept the terrorists who had begun kidnapping people who were using the Danbasa-Bini road. In an attack in Yobe state, Boko Haram has killed at least eleven people. The killings happened in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area in the state. According to the Nigerian Army 27 Task Force Brigade sources, the attack happened between Thursday and Friday of the week of 13-14 April, on the outskirts of Buni Gari. The army recovered the victim’s corpses on Friday morning. On Thursday, two residents of the Buni Gari village were in the bush collecting firewood when they were caught by the insurgents. One of the residents, Abba Gawi, 40, was shot and killed, and the other one was instructed to go home and report to the village the incident and to tell them to come and recover the body. A military source says, “he rushed home and reported the incident in the community, the community members decided to go to the bush Friday morning to recover the corpse, believing that the terrorists might have left by then, unfortunately they ambushed those who went to fetch the body of the slaid (sic) civilian and killed some of them. Ten of them mostly youth were shot dead at close range after their hands were tight (sic) to their back. Other people escaped and reported the incident to the soldiers at the Buni Gari, the soldiers were already on alert following the gunshots from the attack. The soldiers, led by an officer identified only as Aro, a major, moved to the scene in combat gear and armour vehicles, unfortunately, the terrorists fled the scene, and the soldiers recovered eleven corpses of the residents in the bush including that of one person initially killed on Thursday. Gunmen kidnapped three residents of Akure, in Ondo state. The victims were kidnapped in the Isinigbo-Odegede area of Igoba in the Akure North Local Government Area, last Thursday night. A community member confirmed the incident, saying, “The armed men stormed the street last night and took away the residents. In fact, what baffles me is that they even announced their arrival. One of the kidnapped residents, Mr. Paul, used to stay close to my place. It was the one who escaped that quickly alerted other residents in the community. According to Nasarawa state police, three suspected kidnappers, accused of terrorizing the community of Sabon Gidan, Lafia East Development Area, have been killed. In a statement released by the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Ramham Nansel, the kidnapers were killed when they were discovered by police, and in the ensuing action, a recently abducted victim was rescued. “On 013 April 2023, information was received that suspected kidnappers blocked AssakioSabon Gida road in Lafia East Development Area of Lafia LGA and kidnapped one Ezekiel Luka of Taraba state. Reacting to the unsavoury development, police operatives attached to Assakio Division, led by SP Ekoja Elaigu, launched a manhunt for the abductors. Consequently, on 14 April 2023 at about 1400hrs, the police operatives came in contact with the kidnappers and a gun duel ensued. The violence seen in Nigeria this week appears to have been less religious, ethnic-based violence, and more criminal, with more reports of security forces apprehending terrorists responsible for the attacks.
